For Andreas Ottensamer, the idea of Romantic song is the main focus of this album. From the lyrical intimacy of the lied to the gushing cantabile of the aria to the dramatic focus of the operatic scena: all can be conjured up on the clarinet. Singing on his instrument is, he claims in one mind with Hoffmann, something at once natural and magical: "What fascinates me about the clarinet - and it comes especially to the fore in the cantabile pieces on this album - is the moment when you no longer know exactly where the sound is coming from, neither spatially nor from what instrument. It's marvellous to toy a bit with this mystery. The reason is that the air circulation is very natural on the clarinet. I inhale and exhale almost as I do in normal life."
