The follow-up to his acclaimed solo debut, Curtis Live was released in the summer of 1971 as a double album. Recorded over 4 nights in January 1971 at New York's Bitter End Club, it became one of Mayfield's biggest-selling albums, spending thirty-eight weeks in America's national album chart where it made the number 21 spot, as well as reaching number 3 in the soul chart. As well as inspired versions of several songs from his debut album, Curtis Live includes Mayfield's dynamic re-interpretations of some of his most popular songs from his days with The Impressions.
