The Poor State of War and Conflict

Denis Kelly served in World War I from 22nd April, 1914, until its close on 11th November, 1918, being a soldier of the 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He went to war on the day his wife gave birth to a healthy boy, and through sheer luck and good fortune he did survive the war.

Edward Kelly, son of Denis Kelly, served during World War II. He was one of the first to step through the gates of Bergen-Belsen on its liberation, having served in the infantry prior to transfer to MPs. The camp was liberated by the British on 15th April, 1945, and over the next 30 days the death rate dropped from 500 a day to less than 100 a day. More and more people continued to meet with death in the face of their liberation for many reasons, some of which has been needlessly blamed on the British, despite their heroic efforts.

Our final story involves that of The grandson of Edward Kelly. This story takes you on a journey through 16 years of service with the Royal Australian Infantry; including service in Rwanda - where the massacre of over 4,000 took place in 1995.

Over these three generations you will become acquainted with the soldiers of England and Australia, drawn into their very day-to-day life.

Soldiers face many torments in war and conflict, some looking for adventure; but for most what is found is something not to be celebrated.
