Into Deep Water

If you've ever been beach-side and glanced back at the lifesaver's clubhouse and wondered what goes on behind that facade, this book is for you*. It is a warts-and-all exposure of the inner workings of a typical lifesaving club, whether starring in 'Bondi Rescue'** or putting in the hours on a deserted beach, watching seagulls mate. Yes, there's lots of swearing, lots of cruel jokes - but there's also plenty of action, plenty of drama in the pages of 'IN DEEP WATER'. You'll follow the progress of this iconic organisation from the era of reel and line rescues to modern helicopter search and retrieve, but hey, this novel is not titled 'A Precise History of Lifesaving in Australia', it's a white-knuckle yarn of a young man's initiation and subsequent acceptance into a typical wild bunch of Aussies, tempered by a code of dedication and skill. Our hero(?) will know both the highs and lows of volunteer service, rewarded by both praise and abuse. There's a Beautiful Girl, of course, who drags this superman, kicking and swearing, into some form of respectability until he reaches the pinnacle of this profession, as Lifeguard on Australia's famous Gold Coast, after a rigorous entry exam. You'd think he'd settle down and embrace this new responsibility, but oh no, he must indulge in one final dalliance before the whole lot comes tumbling down. Will he pick up the pieces? Will he rebuild his relationship with Beautiful Girl? Spend a few hours in this engrossing tale and find out. Enjoy.* In the USA, read 'Lifeguard's Tower'** Like 'Bay Watch' but without Pamela Anderson.
