Gender-biased Ideology of Tigrinya Speakers: As Reflected in the Grammar of the Language
Roza Tadesse
Language obviously reflects the identity of a person in particular and society in general. It is through Language that ones attitude, belief and norms are reflected. Gender-biased ideologies are one of the norms in which one society reflects them through language. Hence, this book examines how the gender- biased ideology of Tigrinya speakers is reflected in the grammar of the language and displays the different aspects of the grammar which reflect this gender biased-ideology. This Book, therefore, consists three chapters in which the first chapter deals on the general introduction of the work, the second chapter presents review of related literature, the third chapter analyses the data and the last chapter presents the conclusions and recommendations part. Since much has not been done on this area, this book can play its own role on adding an information for the study area of language and gender. Moreover, this book helps those who are struggling to bring gender equity by showing how this language portrays both the sexes. In addition to this, this book can be a resource for language planners, linguists, researchers and students of Linguistics.
