First Naval Battle of Guadalcanal

The South Pacific continues to broil over in the bloodiest battles of naval history. Some are spectacular, and others escape notice except for the participants and historians. November 11-15, 1942, air units, ships, and men of the United States Navy and Marine Corps engage the men of Japan in the battle for the island of Guadalcanal. Almost four thousand men and 28 ships with numerous aircraft and crews litter the 'Slot.'It would take volumes to tell all of the stories of sacrifice, heroism, and the unbridled courage of men from both sides. All are revered as heroes by their people.
