Recovering alcoholic ex-cop Matt Scudder (Jeff Bridges) took a fat cash advance from a high-end call girl (Alexandra Paul) to get her out of the grip of a sleazy gambling club owner (Randy Brooks). When all that came out of his efforts were her abduction and murder, Scudder's determination to make good only places him in the crosshairs of a pernicious drug and prostitution racket.
